What is arm lift surgery?

Deterioration of skin flexibility is inevitable due to ageing, weight gain and loss. With ageing, the structure and shape of elastic and collagenous fibres in the body also get older, and the subcutaneous fat layer decreases. As a result, there is loosening and sagging in the body tissue. If this sagging occurs in the arm area, it can be treated with an upper arm lift surgery.

Arm lift (Brachioplasty) surgery can be performed alone or in combination with other lift surgeries such as tummy tuck, breast reduction/augmentation, or breast lift and liposuction in our clinic. When an arm lift is combined with liposuction, much better results can be achieved. In this way, the subcutaneous fatty tissue is thinned out more, and excess skin is removed. Where do scars form after an arm lift?
The quantity of fatty tissue and the degree of sagging are essential factors for forming scars. In upper arm lift operation, the scar remains on the inside of the arm and in the area near the armpits. These areas are the least visible from the outside. Sometimes, in cases where there isn't much sagging, the scars may be limited to the armpit area.

The role of liposuction during arm lift surgery

Liposuction is a sufficient procedure if the skin is of good quality and without sagging, i.e. only if there is a significant accumulation of fat. However, a tightening operation is necessary if the skin is slack with excess fatty tissue.

The procedure
An arm lift will be performed under general anaesthesia. The sagging skin and excess fatty tissue on the inside and back of the arm are removed. If necessary, liposuction can also be performed on other parts of the arm in the same session. The interface is sutured in two layers, and at the end of the operation, the arm is wrapped with a soft bandage.

After the surgery

Patients return to their daily activities after ten days, and the sutures heal in about ten days. After the arm lift operation, a corset should be worn for one month. In this way, there is less swelling, and the skin adheres to the underlying tissue and shrinks. The surgical scar begins to fade after one month.
