What is gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia, defined as benign enlargement of the breast in men, is a condition that occurs most commonly in adolescence and adults. This situation, while growing up, can cause physical and psychological problems for the individual if it is permanent. Gynecomastia, which has existed for a long time, does not go away on its own; medical treatment and, if necessary, surgical intervention should be carried out.

How is gynecomastia surgery performed?

The most effective and definitive method of treating gynecomastia is surgery. The intervention type is decided after our surgeon's examination in our clinic in Istanbul. Varied techniques can be used for different types of gynecomastia. For example, in glandular-type gynecomastia, solid breast tissue is predominant and must be surgically removed. In mixed gynecomastia, there is excess glandular and adipose tissue, and surgery and liposuction are applied together. Fatty-type gynecomastia primarily comprises adipose tissue, and only liposuction can treat it. Also, the grade of gynecomastia plays a significant role in choosing the surgical technique.
